Privacy policy

Privacy, plainly stated

What the archive processes, why it is needed, where it goes, and the choices available to visitors.

Effective August 27, 2026Site owner: Scott L

Scope

This policy applies to the Don P Archive website, its transcript search, audio and PDF delivery, and the Ask Don AI interpretation.

The archive is operated by Scott L. It is an independent archival project and is not an official publication of Alcoholics Anonymous. This policy does not govern websites reached through external links.

Information processed

Cloudflare processes ordinary connection and request information needed to deliver and protect the site. Depending on the request and Cloudflare’s systems, this may include an IP address, request URL, date and time, browser or device information, response status, network and data-center information, and security signals. Cloudflare Workers invocation logging and limited tracing are enabled for reliability, security, and troubleshooting.

The site application does not use advertising trackers, third-party analytics, or marketing cookies. Ask Don creates a random session identifier and keeps it in browser sessionStorage. The identifier is not a name and is used to associate messages from one browser session.

When you use Ask Don, the site receives the session identifier, your question, and up to 12 recent messages in that browser conversation. The latest question is processed through Cloudflare Workers AI to create a search embedding. Relevant transcript excerpts, the recent messages, and grounded instructions are then sent to the OpenAI API to generate an answer.

After a successful answer, the application stores the session identifier, question, answer, grounding references, model name, and timestamp in a private Cloudflare D1 table. That application table does not intentionally store names, email addresses, IP addresses, browser headers, or geographic metadata. There is no public route for reading the conversation archive.

When you suggest a transcript edit, the application stores the recording ID, canonical passage and timestamp, audio link, proposed replacement text, review status, and submission time in Cloudflare D1. Suggested edits are displayed on an unlisted, search-engine-excluded review page. Do not include your name, contact details, or other personal information in a proposed correction.

Transcript-search terms are processed to return matching passages. Because searches use a URL query parameter, a search term may appear in Cloudflare’s operational request logs. Audio playback, PDF access, and external-link clicks generate ordinary web requests.

How information is used

Information is processed to provide requested pages and files, search transcripts, generate and ground Ask Don responses, collect and review proposed transcript corrections, preserve auditable records, maintain security, diagnose errors, and understand service reliability. The archive does not sell or rent personal information and does not use Ask Don conversations or suggested edits for advertising.

Service providers

Cloudflare provides hosting, network security, operational logs, D1 database storage, R2 object storage, Vectorize search, and Workers AI processing. Cloudflare processes information under its own privacy terms.

OpenAI processes Ask Don prompts and produces answers through its API. The application sends requests with API response storage disabled using store: false. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default unless the account owner opts in. OpenAI may retain API content in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days under its default controls; different retention controls may apply to the account.

Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect visitors or the service, investigate abuse, or complete a business transfer involving the archive. External audio-source and reference links are governed by the destination site’s policies.

Retention

  • The browser session identifier remains in sessionStorage until the browser ends that page session or the visitor clears it.
  • The private Ask Don conversation table currently has no automatic expiration. Records remain until Scott L manually deletes them, they are no longer needed for the purposes described here, or the service is retired.
  • Suggested transcript edits remain until they are reviewed, incorporated or rejected, and no longer needed as part of the archive’s editorial record.
  • Cloudflare operational logs and OpenAI provider records follow their respective service settings and retention policies.

Your choices

You may browse recordings, transcripts, PDFs, the concordance, and the biography without using Ask Don or submitting a transcript correction. Do not submit names, contact information, medical records, sponsor or sponsee identities, or other sensitive identifying details in a question or suggested edit.

You may request access to or deletion of an Ask Don record. Because the service does not require an account or collect an email address, locating a record may require the approximate date and time, part of the question, and any session information still available in the same browser. A request may be limited when identity cannot be reasonably verified or when retention is required by law or necessary for security.

Security and changes

The archive uses restricted service credentials, private database access, encrypted network connections, and Cloudflare security controls. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. The policy may be updated as the service changes. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.
